You can buy readymade kits or compose one of your own. Outdoor survival kits can be very basic but it can also be as extensively endowed. The best kit is a balance between compactness and being complete without being too cumbersome to carry around. In this sense, readymade kits can be an advantage. These are well thought out and prepared by experts who have experience in the wilds and know exactly what problems campers will have to face up with.
Having a survival kit in your luggage is not enough to keep you safe. Some people will compose an enviably efficient survival kit and leave it in the most inaccessible part of their luggage. When an occasion arise that will need the services of the kit, they waste time looking for it or digging into the recesses of their trunk. A survival kit or a lighter version of it should always be close to the body. It should also be protected from getting wet. There is nothing more frustrating than having a match that will not light because it fell into the water and was unprotected.
